Under the direction of the Enterprise Pharmacy’s, System Director, Operations & Compliance the scope and breath of responsibility for the Manager, Pharmacy Corporate Compliance will vary in time and complexity. Oversees issues related to reimbursement, regulatory compliance and performance improvement for the Enterprise Pharmacy Service Line. Understands and ensures compliance with various regulations and laws related to pharmacy practice and healthcare issues affecting pharmacy. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes a team concept and reflects the goal of providing seamless support for patients. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide high quality and safe patient care and high levels of patient satisfaction Clearly and effectively articulates in a timely fashion the mission, goals, directions, critical issues and values of Geisinger to the employees who work within the respective area of responsibility. Must maintain a comprehensive and long-range system view of Geisinger's strategic plan, which constantly seeks to identify and take advantage of opportunities to improve the health and wellness of the patients and families served by Geisinger.
Mutually agreed upon goals and objectives will be established and reviewed on a yearly basis.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs, conducts and coordinates the analysis of business/operational processes and compliance to identify and manage corporate risk within Enterprise Pharmacy.
Leads the coordination and facilitation of all Performance Improvement programs within Enterprise Pharmacy across the system, including but not limited to, monitoring statistical analysis and reporting, including action plans and implementation as necessary.
Provides administrative leadership support to the System Director, Operations & Compliance.
Serves as department liaison with outside constituents regarding areas of responsibilities.
Department to assure compliance with related healthcare regulations.
Works with System Director, Operations & Compliance and Department Director(s) to develop, revise, and audit various department policies and operational procedures related to compliance and performance improvement processes.
B. CORPORATE COMPLIANCE
Assures compliance with accreditation, regulatory and corporate compliance standards regarding financial issues (e.g. billing and reimbursement of medications).
Serves as an active participant on appropriate committees to ensure communication of compliance issues to senior leadership.
Develops and revises the Enterprise Pharmacy Corporate Compliance Plan in conjunction with the System Ancillary Department Billing & General Compliance Committee. Ensures the completion of the plan.
Educates pharmacy leadership regarding new and revised pharmacy regulations and laws.
C. Performance Improvement
Assures all administrative policies and procedures pertaining to Peer Review Protected Performance Improvement are current and are reviewed annually.
Assists System Director, Operations & Compliance and Enterprise Pharmacy leadership with major survey preparation, i.e., Joint Commission, DOH Licensure etc., and assists in development of plans of correction, implementation strategies, and continuing oversight
Develops and revises the Enterprise Pharmacy Performance Improvement Plan in conjunction with the System Regulatory Improvement Department. Ensures the completion of the plan.
Works collaboratively with the Risk Management and Patient Safety Department and Infection Control
Accountable for creating and maintaining standards, operational activities and performance measurement tools that meet operational and market needs in the areas of operational efficiency, quality and patient satisfaction.
Facilitates the problem resolution process so that issues are resolved in a timely manner.
E. HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
Facilitates active engagement and communication with department staff via formal meetings and informal interactions.
Handles all employee relation activities (e.g. coaching, counseling, position control).
Works with the System Director, Operations & Compliance in all performance management activities for assigned staff (e.g. performance evaluations, compensation)
Works with assigned HR Consultant on recruitment activities.
Achieves and maintains appropriate staffing levels and staffing mix.
Utilizes staff in their highest skill capacity to facilitate innovations in care delivery in the pharmacy setting.
Facilitates appropriate recognition of individual and staff performance to maintain a positive and motivational work environment.
Actively participates in resolving employee problems and conflicts as appropriate.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Requires good organizational skills, computer skills and effective communication skills.
Requires excellent leadership skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college and current licensure or eligibility for licensure by the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy required. In the absence of a PharmD, a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy with appropriate clinical pharmacy experience will substitute.
Pharmacy Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) residency experience preferred.
Five years of pharmacy practice experience required.
Graduation from PGY1 residency program will be counted as 2 years of clinical experience
Minimum of 1 years’ managerial or supervisory experience is preferred.
Understanding and experience working with pharmacy regulations and laws.
