The Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) Department of Pharmacy is seeking a Compounding Operations Manager for our Central Pharmacy Division. JHH is a 1,194-bed academic medical center located in Baltimore, Maryland. Recognized as one of the best hospitals in the nation, it is world renowned for medical discovery, is a Level I Trauma Center, a Level IIIC Perinatal Referral Center, a regional Pediatric Trauma and Burn Center, and the Eye Trauma Center for the State of Maryland. JHH is home to Maryland’s largest children’s hospital and one of 41 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers. The Pharmacy’s Investigational Drug Service supports approximately 500 Institutional Review Board-approved studies. The Pharmacy offers training to 30 PGY1 and PGY2 residents.
The Central Pharmacy Division provides sterile and non-sterile compounding, oversees the distribution of controlled substances, maintains over 300 automated dispensing cabinets (ADC), and provides a 24-hour cart fill to supplement ADC drug distribution. Bar code technology is used extensively throughout the compounding and distribution processes.
The Compounding Operations Manager will join a dynamic Central Pharmacy leadership team including a Division Director, 3 Pharmacy Technician Supervisors, and an Automation Operations Manager. The Central Pharmacy is staffed with approximately 55 FTEs. The Compounding Operations Manager will have primary responsibility for managing compounding staff and workflow, providing daily oversight, and serving as an expert on USP <795>, USP <797>, and USP <800>. Prospects are strong for collaboration across the health-system related to compounding activities. Opportunities exist to precept students and residents. Departmental support is available for professional association dues and travel to meetings.

The Baltimore Orioles and Ravens provide a fun experience for sports fans, and there are an assortment of more culturally oriented activities. Restaurants are top notch. Baltimore is located on the East Coast with convenient travel to major cities: Baltimore is located 40 miles northeast of Washington, D.C., 100 miles south of Philadelphia, and 188 miles south of New York City. Baltimore is also a few hours from either the Maryland mountains or the shore.
Pharm. D. degree or equivalent; minimum 1-year hospital pharmacy experience, preferably in a supervisory role; completion of PGY1 residency; PGY2 residency in administration or relevant experience preferred.
