Reporting to Director of the Office of Health Professions, the Executive Director is responsible for external relations of the Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission (addressed as Commission throughout this document) and oversees the administrative, operations, and inspection functions of the Commission through a Deputy Executive Director.
The Executive Director is primarily responsible for all aspects of legislative development, external communications, and public education. Through the Deputy Director, this position is accountable for section management including personnel administration, budget development and administration, and inspection of Commission-licensed facilities. In consultation with and through the Deputy Director, the position is responsible for a staff of fifteen (15) and is accountable for administering a biennium budget of more than $13.5 million.
The fifteen (15) member Governor appointed Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission (Commission) is responsible for regulating the competency, safety, and quality of approximately 10,000 pharmacists, 20,000 ancillary pharmacy personnel, 4,000 pharmacies and pharmaceutical firms, and 1,000 drug wholesalers and manufacturers by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing qualifications for licensing, examinations or surveys for licensure, consistent safe standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms, and discipline. Rules, policies, and procedures developed by the Commission must promote the delivery of safe, quality health care to the residents of Washington.
