Riverside University Health System Medical Center is recruiting a Sr. Clinical Pharmacist - Medication Safety Officer (MSO). Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, the Medication Safety Officer will work in collaboration with the pharmacy management team, physician and nursing leadership, pharmacy informatics and front-line staff to improve safety and patient care. The MSO is the direct liaison to the RUHS Quality Assurance/Safety Departments and works with the Pharmacy Director and Quality Improvement Director in addressing medication usage concerns and ensuring regulatory compliance.
The MSO must proactively review the existing medication use system and identify system-level opportunities for improvement. The incumbent will chair the Medication Management Committee, and must have an understanding of Title 22, experience with medication error reduction plans, and knowledge of ISMP principles of medication safety. The MSO will review existing practices, develop and lead implementation of preventive and corrective action needed to meet Joint Commission, CMS, CA State Board of Pharmacy, and other regulatory standards as appropriate
The MSO will collect, review, and analyze the organization’s medication-use, medication error, adverse drug reaction, and continuous quality improvement data to identify opportunities for improvement. Must establish and monitor patient safety metrics. Periodically review and update clinical decision support tools to alert staff to high-risk situations and educate staff as needed. Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy residents and students. Must also participate in internal and external emergency-preparedness planning
Minimum recruiting guidelines: Education: Graduation from a School of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm. D.); Experience: 3-5 years as a Clinical Pharmacist; supervisory and/or management experience along with medication safety experience. Knowledge of: Drug distribution systems and provision of clinical pharmacy services; system development and implementation of drug distribution and/or clinical systems/services; quality assurance and continuous quality improvement; principles of effective supervision; good customer (Physicians, nurses, and patient) service; professional standards and practices; Federal, Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission and DHS laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to patient care, and dispensing of legend and non-legend pharmaceuticals and poisons. Ability to: Provide quality pharmaceutical care; communicate clearly and effectively; schedule, organize, and manage routine and new responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will have MSO experience, 3-5 years of supervisory/management experience, knowledge of contemporary inpatient pharmacy operations/principles/standards, excellent customer service skills and the ability to delegate and redirect as necessary in the application of medical management plans, emergency medication and drug monitoring systems
