The pediatric pharmacy residency at Monroe Carell Jr., Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt is designed to build upon a PGY1 foundation of clinical knowledge. Through further experiences in patient-centered care, teaching and leadership, the resident will have the opportunity to enhance their skills and confidence in pediatric pharmaceutical care. This resident can anticipate focus on sharpening their clinical skills in pediatric pharmacy practice while working towards independence, in a particular area if desired, throughout the 12-month residency. After completion, the resident will be prepared for an opportunity to work as a clinical pharmacy specialist. The goals and objectives of this program follow those established by ASHP for PGY2 Pediatric residencies. PGY2 residents will be expected to complete a project suitable for submission for publication upon completion of their residency year. Required rotations include: PCCU (1 month), NICU (1 month), pediatric medicine (2 months) and oncology (1 month). Residents will also participate in a weekly ambulatory clinic. Elective rotations and other learning experiences, such as cardiology, ED, GI, neurology, stem cell transplant, solid organ transplant and more, will be tailored to the resident's interests. A teaching certificate program will be offered for interested residents.
