The 24-Month (PGY1/PGY2) Pharmacotherapy (PCT) Residency at Henry Ford Hospital is designed to produce a specialized practitioner who can deliver pharmaceutical care to diverse inpatient and outpatient populations and become a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist. The versatile yet focused structure of this program will develop a specialist with great flexibility and strong leadership skills. A graduate of this program will be able to integrate into any specialized area of practice with confidence and ease and is qualified to take a position as a clinical pharmacist or pharmacy specialist in either an inpatient or outpatient setting in an academic teaching institution. The resident will gain extensive clinical experiences in the following areas of practice: -Internal Medicine (general medicine, infectious disease, pulmonary, cardiology, nephrology, family medicine, transitions of care, oncology) -Intensive Care Unit (medical, surgical, cardiac, cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, neonatal) -Ambulatory care (solid organ transplant, pulmonary, HIV, oncology, anticoagulation, psychiatry, population health) -Additional experiences include Emergency Medicine, Inpatient Solid Organ Transplant (heart, lung, liver, kidney, abdominal), Nutrition Support, Infectious Diseases Consult/Stewardship, Drug Information, and Pharmacy Practice Administration. Longitudinal research project, MUE, CE presentation, Code Blue coverage and On-call program are mandatory. The incoming PCT resident will work closely with the PGY-2 PCT resident, 10 PGY-1 general pharmacy residents, and other PGY-2 residents (Infectious Disease, Critical Care, Hematology Oncology, and Transplant) throughout the year. There are many opportunities to precept pharmacy students through the Longitudinal Advanced Pharmacy Practice (LAPP) program that accepts 12 students and many other Traditional Advanced Pharmacy Practice (TAPP) students from Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. This PGY1/PGY2 residency program is a 24 month learning experience with one position available per year.
