Institution Description The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center– Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) is a 1.1 million square foot, 21 story, 356 bed facility making it the third largest cancer hospital in the nation. Our National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated comprehensive cancer center is home to more than 200 oncologists and is one of only a few cancer centers in the nation funded by the NCI to conduct both phase I and phase II clinical trials on novel anticancer agents.
OSUCCC – James has six outpatient chemotherapy infusion centers, dispensing more than 75,000 doses of chemotherapy annually as well as a dedicated early phase clinical trials unit and a 36 bed hematological transplant and cellular therapy unit.
OSUCCC – James is looking for highly motivated pharmacists to expand pain and palliative care pharmacy services across a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. Working for one of the top cancer hospitals in the nation, pharmacists have the opportunity to work among more than 80 licensed pharmacists across a variety of practice areas.
The OSUCCC – James offers a unique practice model that allows pharmacists to practice at the top of their license in close coordination with world renowned hematologists and oncologists. Our clinical pharmacy program is designed to align with the hospital’s specialized disease model, allowing dedicated board certified oncology pharmacists to specialize and work alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses who are experts in their field.
Job Responsibilities The clinical specialist pharmacist rotates between an inpatient benign hematology and palliative care consult service. Both are interdisciplinary in nature and are comprised of physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, fellows, social workers, and chaplains. The pharmacist is charged with ensuring appropriate medication therapy and monitoring, implementing clinical protocols and guidelines, as well as enhancing the quality and delivery of evidence based medicine.
Specific Duties: • Actively participating on inpatient rounds or pain and palliative care plan development • Patient interviewing and counseling • Independent medication management (pharmacokinetic monitoring, opioid management, transitions of care, etc.)
Other Opportunities: • Committee involvement and participation in clinical research • Serving as a preceptor for PGY2 pain and palliative residents, PGY1 residents, MS residents, and international learners • Multidisciplinary and continuing education • Providing lectures and serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy

Qualifications • Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited pharmacy school • Eligibility for licensure in the state of Ohio • Pharmacy practice residency and specialty practice residency in pain and palliative care preferred or equivalent training and experience in this area of expertise
