Position Summary: As a member of the pharmacy leadership team, this manager is responsible for supervising and developing the activities of the pharmacists and staff assigned to patient care roles and to maintain a clinical practice within the Clinical and Patient Care Services (CPCS) Division. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager has varied responsibilities, many of which include:
Provides clinical leadership and supervision for the responsible practice area(s) and the department of pharmacy, including monitoring staffing needs and assuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained
Maintains skills as a clinical pharmacy practitioner
Maintains a clinical practice
Maintains relationships with nursing, medical staff and program leadership to achieve pharmacy department, hospital, or health-system goals
Assists in the planning, design, implementation and demonstration of the value of pharmacy services
Assists of the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of pharmacy department policies and procedures, and evaluations staff compliance with the same
Provides leadership for appropriate medication use for area of responsibility
Monitors medication use in area(s) of responsibility (e.g., including monitoring and minimizing overrides in automated dispensing cabinets, assisting in floor stock management, etc)
Participates in or provides leadership in continuous quality improvement activities, medication safety processes, committees, and medication policy activities of CPCS, the pharmacy department, or the health-system
Collaborates with staff members to achieve division, pharmacy department, hospital, and/or health-system goals
Provides leadership for staff development projects (design, implementation, measuring impact)
Maintains responsibility for performance evaluations
Recruits ands assists in hiring new employees for the division and department
Provides on-call support for the CPCS division or the pharmacy department
Provides oversight for scheduling of clinical pharmacists, residents, and clinical faculty pharmacists.
Participates in didactic and experiential student and resident education
Takes responsibility for personal and professional growth
Maintains familiarity with all departmental programs
Ensures compliance with all regulatory practice standards
Works as integral part of the pharmacy leadership team
Description of institution: Duke University Medical Center is a 979-bed tertiary care, academic medical center with comprehensive inpatient and ambulatory care services. The Department of Pharmacy provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care with a staff of approximately 300 pharmacists, technicians, administrative and support personnel. Required or desired credentials or experience of applicants:
Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required; completion of a pharmacy practice residency (PGY1) or equivalent experience required; three years of post-residency clinical pharmacy practice experience desired; management experience or appropriate training preferred; board certification in area(s) of clinical expertise desired; licensed in North Carolina or eligible for same; certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
