UAB is launching a new multidisciplinary Nutrition Support Team (NST) beginning January 2020. The new team will be responsible for promoting safe and evidence-based care surrounding nutrition support. The initial focus of the NST will be on adult parenteral nutrition at our UAB main campus with plans for future expansion and growth.
The NST pharmacists will be an integral Nutrition Support Team member and will have several key responsibilities including:
Assist in the ongoing development of UAB Medicine's Nutrition Support Team
Active participation in the implementation of the Nutrition Support Program
Work directly with providers and other healthcare professionals around nutrition management strategies
Participate in patient care activities as it relates to nutrition support
Assess current nutrition prescribing patterns and impact of existing policies and guidelines around nutrition therapy
Plan and develop interventions that will reduce nutrition related adverse events
Develop key metrics for monitoring performance related to parenteral nutrition utilization, patient safety and efficacy
Educate patients and staff on appropriate use of parenteral nutrition
In order to support the NST and future plans to expand the service to other hospitals within our health-system, we are recruiting for one full-time, day shift pharmacist position and one part-time, day shift pharmacist position. These positions will also be responsible for supporting our PGY1 and PGY2 specialty residency programs. In addition to precepting residents, there are also additional opportunities to precept pharmacy students from both Auburn University and Samford University.
Applicants must have graduated from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy, have completed a PGY1 residency or equivalent experience, and be eligible for Alabama licensure. Completion of a PGY2 residency in Critical Care/Nutrition Support and Board Certification in Nutrition Support is encouraged.
