This position collaborates with infectious disease physicians, pharmacy clinical specialists and managers, infection prevention, clinical laboratory staff and other professionals to advance an antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) at the Wakefield Campus of Montefiore Medical Center that compliments the overall system ASP. This individual will develop strategies to maximize appropriate antibiotic utilization and improvement in patient outcomes across the health system, including but not limited to antibiotic guidelines, clinical pathways, restriction criteria, policy development, new laboratory methods and formulary management. The ID clinical specialist will establish a process for ID pharmacist approval of restricted antimicrobials and report and monitor ongoing anti-infective utilization and other identified metrics showing the effectiveness of our ASP program. They will also identify opportunities to improve antimicrobial use including performance improvement initiatives and outcomes research. The ID clinical specialist will provide ongoing education to pharmacists, physicians, and other disciplines throughout the health system, precept residents and students in infectious disease rotations and serve as the pharmacy department liaison for the Infectious Disease division.
Eligible for or active New York State pharmacist license
Completion of PGY1 pharmacy practice residency and PGY2 specialty residency or fellowship training in Infectious Diseases
Board certification in infectious diseases pharmacotherapy or eligible for board certification
Strong interest in antimicrobial stewardship
Contribution to pharmacy practice and medical community through presentations at local/national conferences and/or publications in reviewed journals
Ability to function independently and collaboratively within a team setting. Highly motivated, effective in communication, problem solving and organizational skills
