The PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, Iowa's only nationally ranked children's hospital, provides residents with the opportunity to achieve their professional goals of becoming a pediatric clinical pharmacist. The University of Iowa Children’s Hospital has been meeting the healthcare needs of children and families since 1919. The UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital, located adjacent to the main hospital, opened February 2017. The new hospital has more than 200 pediatric beds and offers more than 40 pediatric specialties.
Core rotation experiences include general pediatrics, pediatric hematology/oncology/BMT, neonatal intensive care, and pediatric intensive care. Other required rotations include infectious disease, nephrology, newborn nursery, and psychiatry. Elective rotations include opportunities in pediatric cardiology, emergency medicine, endocrine, palliative care, and clinical management. The resident will also provide ambulatory clinical services in the Pediatric Specialty Clinic. A variety of teaching opportunities exist including preceptorship of pharmacy students, adjunct faculty position at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, and participation in a teaching certificate program. Completion of a formal clinical research project, a medication use evaluation, and a staffing component are also required.

Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 health system pharmacy residency.
Graduation from an ACPE Accredited School of Pharmacy.
Current or eligible for Iowa Pharmacist licensure.
