The Oncology PGY2 Pharmacy Residency at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah is a 1-year, organized, directed postgraduate training program to prepare pharmacists for a variety of advanced practice settings in the fields of oncology, hematology, and stem cell transplant. We are an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and NCCN Member Institution.
This residency aims to enhance professionalism and to develop the knowledge and skills needed to achieve competency in the provision of patient care and practice management in an oncology environment. Core learning experiences include inpatient hematology/oncology, outpatient infusion, outpatient clinics, infectious diseases, inpatient blood and marrow transplant (BMT), management, and investigational drug services. Electives include hematology/oncology-specific intensive care, pain and palliative care, Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research Center, additional inpatient or outpatient heme/onc experiences as listed among the required rotations, and many others pending resident interest.
Required meetings include the ASHP Clinical Midyear meeting and Mountain States Residency Conference. Oncology PGY2 residents are also encouraged to attend the HOPA Annual Meeting. Staffing includes the equivalent of 48 eight-hour shifts/year. Staffing is primarily on the inpatient hematology/oncology, inpatient BMT, infusion or central pharmacy services at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital.

Applicants must be graduates from an accredited college of pharmacy and have completed a Doctor of Pharmacy degree followed by a pharmacy practice residency (PGY-1) or comparable experience. Residents must be eligible for Utah licensure and are expected to obtain licensure within the first 90 days of the program. Applications are submitted via PhORCAS.
