The PGY1 Pharmacy / PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership with Masters Residency Program at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital will be recruiting its first resident this year. During the first year of training, the resident is a member of the PGY1-Pharmacy Residency class and adheres to the same expectations of that residency program. During the second year, the resident completes the requirements of the PGY2-Health System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership Residency program. The emphasis of the second year is to build upon PGY1 residency graduates’ competence in the delivery of patient-centered care and in pharmacy operational services to prepare residents who can assume high level managerial, supervisory, and leadership responsibilities. Areas of competence emphasized during the program will include safe and effective medication-use systems, quality assurance and improvement, management of human and financial resources, use of technology, and advanced leadership. The residency lays the foundation for continued growth in management and leadership skills.
Upon graduation, residents are prepared for a clinical or operational management/supervisory role in a variety of work settings, and be prepared serve as preceptors for residents and students.
Residents will have the opportunity to continue to build clinical and leadership skills, and to assist in precepting both students and PGY1 residents. Residents will progress through a series of customized month-long focused learning experiences in addition to longitudinal learning experiences during the 12-month period.

Interested candidates must be graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited degree program (or be in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). Applicants should also be eligible for Virginia licensure. About the Pharmacy Department at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH):
The Department of Pharmacy at CRMH is comprised of approximately 70 pharmacists and 70 technicians. We utilize a mix of decentralized clinical staff and specialists to provide pharmaceutical care for patient populations ranging from Level 1 trauma to neonatal critical care.
In addition to our personnel, we utilize multiple technologies to deliver care, including PyxisMedstations, centralized carousels, computerized prescriber order entry, electronic medical records and bedside barcode scanning. Approximately 45 percent of our pharmacists are adjunct or associate professors for regional schools of pharmacy and... medicine.

The pharmacy residency programs conducted at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia have a strong commitment to the education and professional development of pharmacists. For the 2020-2021 residency class, we will offer six positions in our Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency program, two positions in our Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Critical Care program, two positions in our PGY2 Infectious Diseases program, one position in our PGY2 Internal Medicine Program, and one position in our two year Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Program (combined PGY1/PGY2).
All of our programs are fully accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), with the exception of our HSPAL program which is seeking full accreditation at this time.
