This specialty pharmacy residency in oncology pharmacotherapy given an in-depth experience in a variety of oncological settings. The primary goal of this program is to develop residents into independent hematology/oncology practitioners and confident pharmacy leaders who possess in-depth therapeutic knowledge and function as a professional and integral member of the healthcare team. Core content areas include inpatient and ambulatory patient care with therapeutic emphasis in adult and pediatric malignant hematology and medical oncology. Special emphasis is placed on providing evidence based patient centered care to individuals with a history of bone marrow transplant, cellular therapy, hematological malignancies, gastrointestinal malignancies, genitourinary malignancies, breast cancer, chest oncology, and head/neck diseases. The resident also gains extensive experience in the management of clinical trials and oncology specialty pharmacy processes. Longitudinal experiences include chemotherapy pharmacy practice, in-house on-call, and the Oncology Drug Safety Committee. An interactive teaching environment allows residents to facilitate internal and external small group discussions, precept pharmacy student experiences, and present multidisciplinary lectures. The teaching certificate program allows residents to learn innovative teaching methodologies and mentoring techniques from faculty. Residents complete a clinical research project, and present and publish their results.
A Doctor of Pharmacy degree, completion of ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, eligibility for Illinois licensure and completion of an application via PHORCAS are required for consideration
