The University of Tennessee Medical Center has an opening to join our oncology pharmacy team.

As the largest provider of cancer care in the region, the University of Tennessee Medical Center's Cancer Institute offers the broadest spectrum of cancer specialists and services to care for the adult population. The 83,000-square-foot cancer area is equipped with features that support and enhance the comprehensive services provided to oncology patients and is devised to meet the needs of patients, families, physicians, nurses and other staff. Our multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists is dedicated to providing patients with the highest quality of care. 

New to UTMC Oncology Pharmacy in 2020:

  • Opening of second outpatient infusion pharmacy (Lenoir City) - January 2020
  • Renovation of existing outpatient infusion pharmacy - 1st Quarter 2020
  • Initiation of Bone Marrow Transplant Program - 4th Quarter 2020

 

The Pharmacist Specialist in Oncology:

• Provides in-depth clinical pharmacy services to adult inpatient and outpatient hematology/oncology patients - primary practice area determined by applicant's interests

• Participates in all aspects of the medication-use system while providing comprehensive and individualized pharmaceutical care as a member of interdisciplinary teams

• Completes pharmacy consults/clinical interventions, interdisciplinary collaboration, stewardship of appropriate utilization of medications, integrated operational support, and departmental leadership as required by the position

• Identifies service-related issues which require evaluation and facilitates research projects and quality improvement initiatives as needed to advance practice

• Additional responsibilities including education to patients, peers, medical, and nursing staff about the management, prescribing and monitoring of therapies used in oncology

• External presentations, publications, and professional speaking is strongly encouraged and supported

• He/she may serve as a preceptor for the PGY1 Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, or Ambulatory Care Residency Program

• Provides precepting mentorship for Doctor of Pharmacy students

Eligibility Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
  • ASHP accredited hematology/oncology residency or Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy
  • Tennessee pharmacy licensure (or eligible)

Additionally, there are satellite pharmacies in the operating room and oncology areas, as well as a full-service retail pharmacy, University Pharmacy. Ambulatory care is provided via specialty services to the patients in the Family Medicine Clinic, Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, Rheumatology Clinic and the Renal Transplant Clinic among others.
