This ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency provides the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in providing pharmaceutical care to cancer patients, participation in the interdisciplinary delivery of health care in the oncology, and education in a variety of inpatient and outpatient oncology settings. The program is individualized to meet the needs and interests of the resident.
The University of Colorado is an integrated academic health sciences center. In addition to clinical training, residents are involved in educational experiences focused in the training of PharmD students, PGY1 pharmacy residents, medical residents, oncology fellows, nurses and physicians. Residents also gain experience in medical writing and publishing, completion of a research project of publishable/presentable quality and an administrative project are required.
Upon completion of this residency, graduates will possess competencies that enable attainment of board certification in oncology pharmacy (BCOP), and are qualified to either practice as a clinical oncology pharmacy specialist in a hospital-based, academic or managed care environment or become a faculty member at a School of Pharmacy.
The University of Colorado Cancer Center (UCCC) offers a variety of practice sites that will give the resident a well-rounded experience. The majority of this 12-month experience is within the UCCC and has both inpatient and outpatient rotations. Other rotation sties may include other hospitals in the Denver area offering unique learning experiences not available at the UCCC.
Rotations are scheduled in 4 week blocks of time. Required clinical rotations include Inpatient Medical Oncology, Inpatient Hematology, Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplant, Pediatric Oncology and Outpatient Medical Oncology (including the following clinics: Developmental Therapeutics/Phase 1 Clinical Trials, GI, Head & Neck Breast, Lung, Gyn Oncology, Urologic Oncology and Heme/BMT) and Radiation Oncology (1 week). Elective longitudinal rotations in the Outpatient Medical Oncology clinics may be offered. These rotations are scheduled in 3-6 month blocks and provide continuity of care experiences with the same group of patients and health care providers. Elective rotations include Sarcoma, Cutaneous Oncology and Education. Other potential opportunities included Palliative Care, Integrative Medicine, Pain Service and Research. Completion of the Colorado Pharmacy Residency Teaching Certificate Program (if applicable) and A Structured Program to Guide Residents’ Experience in Research (ASPIRE) is required.

Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited school; PGY1 residency; eligible for Colorado pharmacist licensure
