The Medication-Use Safety and Policy residency is a one-year ASHP-accredited specialty residency which allows the resident to learn and apply medication safety concepts to all areas of the medication-use system, including clinical, administrative, informatics, drug information, and pharmacy operations, in order to have a direct impact on improving the quality of patient care. The resident will work as part of an inter-professional team focusing on the improvement of safe medication practices within the UK HealthCare Enterprise. The resident also has the opportunity to be involved in medication use outcomes and training in performance improvement processes including failure modes effects analysis, root cause analysis, and LEAN concepts. The resident serves as an organizational resource for regulatory compliance related to the medication-use systems and policies. The resident participates in organizational interdisciplinary committees tasked with improving medication-use systems and policies. Residents continue their clinical growth by also participating the in-house on-call program and providing longitudinal staffing.
The PGY2 Medication Use Safety requires applicants to be on track to complete an ASHP-accredited PGY1 program or have a residency equivalent with practice experience.
