The hematology/oncology residency is a one-year ASHP-accredited specialty residency that includes training in general hematology and oncology, blood and marrow transplantation, pediatric hematology/oncology, and a wide array of hematology/oncology ambulatory clinics. The primary emphasis of the residency is placed on development of clinical practice skills while delivering patient-focused care. Upon completion of the residency program are expected to demonstrate competency in the areas of contemporary pharmacy practice, written and oral communication, teaching, leadership, and clinical research.
Collaboration with other trainees is frequent, including shared seminars with the hematology/oncology fellows. Research opportunities include clinical trials, outcomes research, as well as basic science opportunities. Residents participate in a longitudinal project and are expected to present the results at a national meeting and submit for publication. Additionally, residents precept Doctor of Pharmacy students, present didactic lectures and facilitate discussions at the UK College of Pharmacy, and provide in-services for other healthcare providers.
The PGY2 Hematology/Oncology Residency requires applicants to be on track to complete an ASHP-accredited PGY1 program or have a residency equivalent with practice experience.
