The critical care residency is a one-year ASHP accredited specialty residency that offers a variety of opportunities in both medical and surgical critical care. A broad experience in numerous aspects of critical care includes trauma, emergency general surgery, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, medical ICU, nutrition support, and many opportunities for elective rotations in other acute settings such as coronary care unit, emergency department, and others. This blend of rotations provides a balanced exposure to both medical and surgical care. The preceptor for each area is a pharmacy faculty critical care specialist. Residents also participate in providing 24-hour clinical pharmacy services through the in-house on-call program and provide longitudinal staffing. While the program focuses on enhancing clinical skills, residents are encouraged to develop communication and writing skills by teaching and precepting Pharm.D. students and conducting clinical research and other scholarly activities.
Applicants are required to be on track to complete an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency or have an adequate residency equivalent in practice.
