This specialty residency is designed to give our critical care resident practical experience managing complex critically ill patients. Required areas of learning include medical ICU, surgical/trauma ICU, neurocritical care ICU, pediatric ICU, cardiovascular ICU, infectious diseases, overnight/evening ICU, administration/program development and emergency medicine. In addition, the resident will have the chance to choose from various elective rotations. Residents will participate in PALS, ACLS, ATLS, ENLS educational programs, complete a MUE and research project, and co-precept PGY1 pharmacy residents and PharmD students.
Wesley Medical Center is an acute-care teaching facility located in Wichita, KS. We are an HCA facility licensed for 760 beds with an American College of Surgeons-certified Level 1 Trauma Center, Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center, and Kansas’s largest emergency department. We have a strong clinical program with pharmacists providing direct patient care 3 shifts a day, 7 days a week. In addition to the one PGY2 critical care residency position, we also currently have six PGY1 pharmacy residents and one PGY1 pediatric pharmacy resident. The position offers the opportunity to:
Be an integral part of multi-disciplinary healthcare teams
Provide direct patient care and medication therapy monitoring, including antibiotic stewardship, pharmacokinetic drug dosing and patient education
Respond to level 1 trauma, code blue, massive blood transfusion emergencies, code strokes, and sepsis alerts
Participate in medication use evaluation
Conduct and publish clinical research
Participate in creation of staff development programs and education in coordination with other clinical specialists
Provide didactic lectures to medical staff, residents interns, pharmacy students, nursing students, and/or members of the community
