Critical Care residency focusing on disease states and pharmaceutical care in the critically ill patient. Rotations include medical, surgical/trauma (level 1 trauma center), neurosurgical (stroke center), and cardiothoracic ICUs (ECMO center). Electives include neonatal ICU, solid organ transplant (abdominal, heart, lung), infectious disease, emergency medicine and toxicology. Through patient data collection and analysis, residents develop the knowledge and skills to provide patient-specific and evidence-based pharmacotherapy while functioning as independent practitioners.
In addition, valuable leadership and research skills are developed through participation in critical care-related interdisciplinary committees and completion of a clinical research project.
Residents function as co-preceptor for pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy residents. Residents also attend and actively participate in code response throughout the residency year and co-precept the PGY-1 residents in this setting.
Residents are required to staff up to every third weekend (clinical specialist role) and two evening shifts every 3rd week (order verification role).
