The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System (VCUHS) PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency is an ASHP-accredited, twelve-month program within the specialized practice area of internal medicine. The program provides structured experiences in a variety of internal medicine-related practices designed to develop the knowledge, skills, leadership, and attitudes to competently participate with a contemporary interdisciplinary internal medicine team. The practice experiences are comprised of seven required and three elective acute care rotations, and 20 weeks of ambulatory care experience that is completed longitudinally with weekly clinics. The internal medicine resident will participate in quality improvement and institutional committees, as well as the didactic and APPE teaching of Doctor of Pharmacy students at VCU. The program provides experiences in clinical research through a project and participation in ongoing research activities. Upon completion of the program, the resident will be prepared to be a practicing clinical pharmacist in internal medicine with clinical faculty responsibilities.
Applicants must be Doctor of Pharmacy graduates from an ACPE-accredited school or college of pharmacy; have completed an accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency; be licensed or eligible for pharmacist licensure in Virginia; and possess requisite patient care training or experience. The successful applicant must possess exceptional knowledge, clinical problem solving, communication skills, and leadership qualities.
