The Pharmacy Operations Manager has oversight for the medication distribution systems of the central pharmacy and leading the team of pharmacists, pharmacy technician managers, and pharmacy technicians that work in these areas. This individual assumes primary responsibility and accountability for the provision of safe, effective and timely medication delivery in a consistent and reliable manner. This manager is responsible for day to day operations, personnel management and quality oversight of the central pharmacy and is accountable for appropriate financial and human resource utilization in these areas. The Pharmacy Operations Manager will actively monitor and, when appropriate, implement improvements in operational efficiency, quality control and financial performance.
Other Responsibilities include:
Develops distribution workflows that minimize waste and improve operational efficiency, reliability and safety
Assures compliance with controlled substance regulations and manages medication use processes to prevent and monitory drug diversion
Directs the activities of staff who work within assigned areas, oversees staffing models and pharmacist and technician daily coverage of operational areas, and provides supervision of staff
Works with Pharmacy Automation Manager to serve as a subject matter expert in distribution system integration with automation, including decentralized automated dispensing cabinets, anesthesia workstations and centralized carousel technologies
Coordinates with members of the supply chain and finance teams on matters related to drug and supply use, inventory management and billing integrity
Works closely with the Pharmacy Information Systems team and nursing leadership to ensure pharmacy distribution systems are optimized and properly maintained
Assists in the recruitment and retention of competent Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Interns
Performs personnel performance evaluations and implements performance improvement and corrective action plans when necessary
Facilitates and supports staff, resident and student training experiences and competency assessments
Develops and enforces policies and procedures and ensures they are updated, understood and followed by staff in coordination with other members of the management team
Maintains an emphasis on ongoing quality, safety and productivity initiatives
Maintains effective communication with his/her staff, other members of the administrative and leadership teams, colleagues throughout the Department of Pharmacy, and other institutional departments
Assumes other responsibilities in the management of the department as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy for Acute Care Services and Chief Pharmacy Officer
The Pharmacy Operations Manager reports to the Assistant Director for Inpatient Operations and works closely with other operations and clinical managers to advance pharmacy practice and patient care services throughout the institution. This manager will also work with the Chief Pharmacy Officer, Director of Pharmacy for Acute Care Services and the pharmacy leadership team in the development of goals for the department and work with other managers and colleagues throughout Wake Forest Baptist Health to facilitate the accomplishment of these goals.

Graduate of ACPE accredited college of pharmacy required
MS Pharmacy Administration, MBA, MHA or other advanced degree preferred
Training and Experience:
Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 and PGY2 residency or extensive experience (5-7 years) of institutional pharmacy experience required
Pharmacy leadership experience required (experience in Specialized administrative residency training meets criteria)
Specialized administrative residency training and/or two years management experience in acute care pharmacy setting preferred
Licensure and Certifications:
Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of North Carolina required
