Allina Health has a open PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Resident position at it's Abbott Northwestern Hospital location. Abbott Northwestern is ranked #1 in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metro area and #2 in Minnesota for the seventh year in a row in the 2019-20 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings. Abbott Northwestern is also ranked nationally in the Top 50 in eight specialty areas including cardiology and heart surgery (#14). In 2019, IBM Watson Health™ named Abbott Northwestern one of the top–performing hospitals in the U.S. by including the hospital on the 100 Top Hospitals® list. In 2014, the American Nurses Credentialing Center awarded continued Magnet Recognition Program® status to Abbott Northwestern Hospital, making it one of less than five percent of all U.S. hospitals that have been designated Magnet™ facilities. The hospital is home to Minneapolis Heart Institute, which consists of more than 55 cardiologists, 8 vascular surgeons and 9 cardiothoracic surgeons. The team provides leadership, clinical experience and research expertise, allowing us to carry out our mission of excellence. Cardiology PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in cardiology. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available. From the experiences and opportunities provided during the PGY2 cardiology residency, the pharmacist will develop expert knowledge and skills necessary to practice independently as a cardiology specialist. The pharmacist will apply evidenced-based medication-related information to clinical practice through clinical recommendations and also understand the principles behind clinical research. Upon completion, the pharmacist will be equipped to participate as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team caring for patients with cardiovascular diseases, assuming responsibility for medication-related care of these patients. They will demonstrate the knowledge and application of formulary management, pharmacy and therapeutics committee involvement, and policy development and compliance. Throughout the program, the resident will demonstrate professionalism and professional growth in organizational involvement, communicating, educating and practice leadership.
