NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital’s Postgraduate Year One (PGY-1) Pharmacy Practice Residency program trains and develops competence in an acute-care teaching facility focusing on direct patient care and research.
This is an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited program consisting of 12-month, full-time professional practice learning experience.
PGY-1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY-2) pharmacy residency training.
The program allows sufficient flexibility to adapt to the needs and interests of the individual resident, yet provides the basic foundation to develop professional practice skills.

Internal Medicine I & II
Inpatient Diabetes Counseling
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit/Pediatrics
Transition of Care/Outpatient Pharmacy
The resident will have the opportunity to:
Teach recitation courses
Participate in a teaching certificate program
Precept pharmacy students
Receive appointment at a local college of pharmacy
Each resident is required to initiate and complete one research project and to prepare a manuscript for publication. Project opportunities that combine the resident’s interests with the needs of the Department are available.
Qualifications for Application:
Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy
Licensed or eligible for licensure in New York State

The Pharmacy Department, staffed by over 100 professionals and support personnel, is responsible for more than four million doses of medication dispensed each year. Continuous service is provided 24 hours a day using the most advanced technology, including a dispensing robot, a computerized physician order entry system and electronic medical records.
