JOB TITLE: Pharmacy Technician II LOCATION: Vitaline Building DEPARTMENT: Enterprise Pharmacy WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Full Time JOB SUMMARY: Reads, interprets, profiles (when requested) and fills all physician orders and prescriptions for enteral and infusion items using the appropriate distribution system. Maintains inventory, utilizing tools provided by the pharmacy site manager and Geisinger Community Health Services. Performs various technical duties. Acts as a resource and teacher for technician, pharmacist and student staff; participates in evaluation of new employees, meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range; works independently, conveys new ideas and reports finished tasks to the pharmacy manager. Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrated ability to utilize a personal computer for word processing and spreadsheets. Demonstrated ability to work independently, communicate effectively, assess situations and present solutions, perform arithmetic calculations and follow instructions using a working knowledge of medical terminology as well as pharmaceutical and chemical names. Demonstrates superior knowledge, skill, vision, and commitment. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Current national pharmacy technician certification, which is administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required*. Must maintain the necessary number of continuing education credits as specified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Associate's degree or equivalent combination of course work and experience is preferred. *Flex employees do not need to be certified within one year of their hire date, however, they must fulfill all other internal departmental requirements (i.e. tests, competencies, etc.) satisfactorily as a requirement to maintain their employment.
