The Administrative Specialist is an advanced pharmacist practitioner responsible for providing and coordinating pharmaceutical care to the patients of Houston Methodist through medication use evaluations, drug policy development, and continuous quality management activities related to his/her specialty focus area designed to improve operational efficiency and patient safety. The Administrative Specialist serves on one or more Medical Staff, Hospital, and/or Departmental Committees or Subcommittees. The Administrative Specialist also serves as a role model for the pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy students, and residents in the integration of clinical and dispensing services in the Department. The Administrative Specialist Plans and participates in staff development and coordinates intradepartmental quality management and performance improvement initiatives related to the respective specialty areas of focus. Contributes to fulfilling the departments mission by collaborating to provide innovative, personalized, cost effective pharmaceutical care in a culture dedicated to quality and safety.
Specifically this position will:
Coordinate intradepartmental quality management and performance improvement initiatives
Serves on and lead local and/or system level medical staff/hospital/departmental committees and/or subcommittees
Support longitudinal training programs for APPEs (LAPPE program);
Precept institutional IPPE rotations
Plan and implement staff development initiatives
Lead technology assessment, selection, and development of automated pharmacy systems

Bachelor of Science degree or Doctor of Pharmacy degree
Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited post-graduate year 1 (PGY1) and year 2 (PGY2) residency training program or equivalent experience
Additional master’s degree in business or pharmacy administration (i.e. MBA, MS) preferred
Completion of residency programs as defined above; or a minimum of 6 years of hospital based experience in a pharmacist role
2 years of precepting pharmacist students and/or pharmacy residents
Prior experience in a lead role demonstrating experience and capacity for leadership abilities
