The ASHP Pre-Candidate PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency Program at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) will initiate in 2020. Residents will participate in a number of required rotation experiences which span a variety of cardiology care settings including cardiac ICU, cardio-thoracic surgery ICU, general cardiology, cardiology transitions of care, emergency medicine, and inpatient/outpatient advance heart failure . Elective rotations may include further experience in any of the core, required practice areas or others including anticoagulation clinic, general cardiology clinic, heart transplantation, or academia. Additionally, the program can be flexible and tailored to resident goals, interests, and previous experiences. Participation in practice research, medication use-evaluations, medication safety, formulary, practice guideline development, and various teaching programs are required. Additional experiences include journal club presentations, development of continuing education activities, teaching and student mentorship, participation in multi-disciplinary committees, and inter-disciplinary education. An elective teaching certificate program is offered. Longitudinal experiences include code response, unique clinical staffing opportunities, and pharmacokinetic dosing and on-call services. The ASHP Accredited PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Program at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) was started in 2012. The program provides an environment to enhance pharmacotherapy skills in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. Comprehensive training includes core rotation experiences with infectious diseases consultation services, antimicrobial stewardship program, multidisciplinary HIV clinic, pharmacokinetics service, and microbiology. Various elective rotations are available to provide flexibility in pursuing individual goals. The resident may choose to complete an elective rotation in one or more of the core rotation practice areas or choose another practice area. Elective rotations may include bone marrow transplant or surgical critical care, which encompasses cardiothoracic surgical ICU, and transplantation.
