Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy has collaborated with several local, independent pharmacies to host an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Community Pharmacy Practice Residency Program. For the 2020-2021 residency year, there will be a total of 4 positions at independent pharmacies in the greater Nashville area. Each experience will be unique based upon the specific practice site. All residents will have the opportunity to earn a Teaching and Learning Certificate through Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy while teaching didactically and experientially in the curriculum. Additionally, all residents will complete a longitudinal research project suitable for manuscript development and publication and participate in an ambulatory care experience. Previous residents have achieved diverse positions in PGY2 ambulatory care and informatics residencies, community pharmacy management, health-system based clinical practice, transitions-of-care, the pharmaceutical industry, and academia. Each specific site is detailed below:
Marcrom’s Pharmacy (Manchester, TN)
Marcrom’s Pharmacy is an independent pharmacy located in Manchester, TN, that incorporates innovative workflow and utilization of experienced technicians to facilitate face-to-face time for pharmacists with patients and to allow regular evaluation of therapy in a very busy pharmacy practice. Services provided include specialty compounding, brace and prosthetic fitting, hospice care, immunization and other injectable therapies, as well as a variety of specialized clinic activities. Pharmacists provide counseling to all patients, monitor blood pressure, blood glucose, HgbA1c, INR, lipids as well as provide MTM services. Clinic times are scheduled for education and management of patients with a wide variety of disease states and problems. The resident will participate in drug therapy decisions with physicians, nurses, and pharmacists, and develop methods for improvement in care, as well as providing drug information and patient advocacy.
Perkins Drugs (Gallatin, TN)
Perkins Drugs is an independent pharmacy in Gallatin, TN, that is dedicated to progressing the profession of pharmacy through collaboration with local organizations, and implementing advanced clinical services. Opportunities include, but are not limited to, providing medication therapy management (MTM) and patient assistance support at Perkins’ partnering charity clinic (The Salvus Center); completing MTM for established patients; leading diabetes self-management and prevention sessions; participating in the new Flip the Pharmacy initiative; immunization administration; health and wellness screenings; community outreach; and novel service development, including developing and implementing a new clinical service, community pharmacy focused research, and clinical practice management,
Sango Pharmacy (Clarksville, TN)
Sango Pharmacy is an independent pharmacy in Clarksville, TN. In additional to many of the aforementioned services described at the other sites (MTM, diabetes self-management education, immunization services, clinical service development, etc.), Sango Pharmacy provides the unique opportunity to serve as the lead coach for the new Flip the Pharmacy Practice Transformation Initiative and participate in various patient initiatives brought forth by the Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network (CPESN).
Gibbs Pharmacy (Lebanon, TN)
Gibbs Pharmacy is an independent pharmacy in Lebanon, TN. With an established and rich history in serving the citizens of Wilson County, Gibbs Pharmacy is committed to expanding enhanced services provided in the community pharmacy setting. Gibbs Pharmacy, while a new residency partner site, has demonstrated a commitment in being a leader in the field. Opportunities at this site will center on the development and maintenance of diabetes self-management and prevention services as well as the potential to develop new enhanced services.
