Reports to the Pharmacy Director or Pharmacy Supervisor. Coordinates and implements the clinical pharmacy services of the pharmacy department and is driven to meet and exceed customer expectations. Holds self and department accountable for achieving the highest level of quality of care, customer service, and employee satisfaction. Recognizes the contribution for desired results. Assists the director in selecting, developing, and maintaining a team of competent staff.
Responsible for the daily operation of the Pharmacy Department. Provides Pharmacy services including primary care, consultative and drug information services to patients and healthcare providers.
JOB DUTIES 1. Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values. 2. Facilitates the development, implementation, monitoring of adherence to, and administering departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the administration and review of the activities completed by pharmacy technicians. 4. Reviews medication orders for clarity, safety and correctness. Ensures appropriate drug, dose, route, and timing of needed medications. 5. Provide independent dosing information for patient and disease specific drugs 6. Ensures prompt and accurate computer order entry, preparation, and legal distribution of drugs and other pharmaceuticals to patients, including but not limited to product preparation, repackaging, labeling, stability, and delivery, and record keeping. 7. Communicate effectively, tactfully, continuously, clearly and positively with the entire scope of customers, visitors, and staff. Obtains clarification of medication orders and supplies information for the safe and effective use of medications. Information given may be regarding drug interactions, incompatibilities, side effects, or administration guidelines. 8. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment and ensure all equipment is in working order. 9. Works in conjunction with colleagues to make decisions in a timely manner. 10. Maintains current knowledge regarding pharmacy, hospital, and healthcare related topics. May be required to assist with in-service education and in updating programs for the pharmacy department as well as other hospital colleagues. 11. May be required to actively participate in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics or similar functioning committee, pharmacy and medical family practice residency, and educational programs to institutional colleagues. 12. May be required to assist colleagues in the development, administration, and improvement of all pharmacy programs and services. Independently participate in drug use evaluations, ADR reporting, Pharmacokinetics dosing service and nutrition support team, participation in new clinical serves and pharmacy student internship rotations. 13. Participates in the pharmacy residency program. 14. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES Education: Requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through the completion of the degree of BS in Pharmacy or successful completion of the foreign pharmacy equivalency exam. Licensure: Must hold a valid Indiana pharmacy license or be a graduate of an accredited school or college of pharmacy and licensed in the state of Indiana as a pharmacy intern. Experience: Must have a proficiency in the practice of pharmacy that is usually obtained from graduation of an accredited college of pharmacy or passing of a pharmacy foreign equivalency examination.
Three to Five years of hospital/institutional pharmacy practice experience or completion of a pharmacy practice residency is preferred.
Other Job Requirements: Must demonstrate independent critical thinking skills and the ability to appropriately and effectively convey concepts to a diverse population of persons with varied educational experience. Must demonstrate the desire and aptitude to teach pharmacy residents.
