This position functions to coordinate all aspects of patients' pharmaceutical needs in the acute post-surgical setting. Duties include but are not limited to: rounding with acute care surgery team; assurance of appropriate dose, route, frequency and duration of therapy; patient medication profile review for drug-drug interactions, duplication of therapy, drug allergy interactions and appropriate regimens; nutrition support including managing parenteral nutrition; opioid stewardship; medication reconciliation; medication order approval and distribution; and coordination of patients' pharmaceutical needs with physicians, mid-level providers, and nurses. The patient population includes adult emergent general surgery, trauma, bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, hepato-pancreas-biliary surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, and orthopedic surgery patients. This position is responsible for precepting PharmD students, undergraduate and graduate student teaching, precepting PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents and providing educational programs for patients and hospital staff (physicians, nurses and pharmacy staff). This position also conducts audits and research on an ongoing basis.
Education/Training Requirements Registered pharmacist in the State of Ohio; board certified (preferred); and completion of PGY1/PGY2 residency.
