MedStar Washington Hospital Center is a 912 bed, tertiary care teaching hospital. The Washington Cancer Institute (WCI) at MedStar Washington Hospital Center serves the largest number of new cancer patients of any hospital in greater Washington D.C. with >2400 new cancer patients per year. The WCI sees >60,000 outpatient visits per year to medical oncology, malignant hematology, radiation oncology, gynecology-oncology, and several other surgical specialists. We have oncologists that are subspecialized in areas such as breast cancer, lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, soft tissue and bone sarcoma, and genitourinary cancer. Aside from our medical oncologists, we have hematologists that see many new leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma patients per year. Our center cares participates in over 50 therapeutic clinical trials.
The Department of Pharmacy provides pharmaceutical care in a culture that inspires innovation, trust, and adaptability. The decentralized model makes full use of technology. We offers weekly onsite educational programs to enhance pharmacists' knowledge and skills. We are accredited by ACPE as continuing education providers and ASHP for PGY-1 residency.
Pharmacist participates autonomously in clinical rounds, makes recommendations, monitors drug therapy of assigned patients, and conduct patient education/counseling. Pharmacist verifies medication orders and dispenses medications; provides in-service/educational presentations to pharmacists, prescribers, and nursing and support personnel; and assists in teaching students and residents.
We have positions for in-patient and out-patient clinical pharmacists and clinical specialists in oncology.
