The role of the Pharmacist is to provide pharmaceutical care to Mercy Medical Center patients, in compliance with federal, state, and professional mandates, as well as hospital and department policies and procedures. The population served by the pharmacist consists of inpatients and outpatients, including adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Tasks of an Oncology Pharmacist include but are not limited to:
Provides ongoing support and education to the staff rotating in the area so the trainee is prepared to work safely, effectively, and deliver consistent performance in all areas.
Responsible for the orientation, training, and monitoring of new personnel in the Oncology Pharmacy providing guidance and feedback to the trainee in a professional manner.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of chemotherapy products, their chemical and physical properties and how to store medications based upon manufacturer guidelines.
Monitors and maintains drug inventory for Oncology Clinics (OPC and hub sites) as dictated by Chemotherapy Treatment and Therapy Plans.
Dispenses controlled substances and maintains departmental records in accordance with regulatory requirements for those medications not stored in the Pyxis system.
In accordance with Clinical Oncology Practice guidelines, provide drug information and education to Providers, Nursing staff, patients and their family members as needed.
Prepare and coordinate delivery of chemotherapy agents for in-patient and ambulatory settings downtown and at out o
Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Must possess a BS or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of Pharmacy.
Must be licensed as a registered Pharmacist in Maryland and maintain all necessary continuing education credits and requirements.
Previous oncology pharmacy experience for a minimum of one year preferred, but not required.
Previous hospital pharmacy experience for a minimum of one year preferred, but not required.

Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to type 30 WPM.
