PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in advanced or specialized practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and position them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in ambulatory care.
The Ambulatory Care residency is designed to deepen the resident’s understanding of both practice management and clinical skills necessary to successfully integrate ambulatory care pharmacy services into the healthcare system. The program emphasizes chronic disease management in the primary care setting while also allowing for experience in multiple specialty clinic areas. Service evaluation, creation/enhancement, and third-party reimbursement will be focus areas in each setting in which the resident rotates. The resident will have the opportunity to precept pharmacy students during experiential situations.
A combination of monthly block and longitudinal experiences will be utilized. Required rotations include specialty pharmacy orientation, primary care, population health, new service development, anticoagulation, and clinical management. Completion of a research project will also be required. Elective experience options include, but are not limited to: advanced heart failure, infectious disease (HIV, HepC), solid organ transplant (thoracic), pulmonology (pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis) and hematology/oncology. Staffing obligations occur during evening and weekend hours with a majority of time spent in the Advanced Therapies Pharmacy.
The qualified applicant must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and must be eligible for Indiana licensure.
Completion of a prior ASHP accredited PGY1 residency is required.
All offers are contingent upon a background check, reference check, and pre-placement health assessment, which includes a drug test. If selected for an on-site interview, completion of clinical case during the interview will be required.
