University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Presbyterian/Shadyside and the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy offer four PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency positions. Also, RxPartners, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), and the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in collaboration offer one PGY2 specialty residency program in Geriatrics. Through each of these positions, the resident will develop skills to design and deliver direct patient care and specialized pharmacy services in outpatient settings as part of a collaborative practice environment; develop teaching and assessment skills; and develop research skills through the design, implementation, assessment, and publication of a practice-based research project.
PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Ambulatory Care (Traditional, Global Health and Family Medicine Tracks) – Additional Specifics
Direct patient care delivery focuses on chronic care management, transitions of care, and individualizing care needs. All trainees develop into health care professionals who are empathetic, creative, and culturally sensitive in solving problems for all patients. The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Traditional Track has two positions and provides a wide variety of opportunities to practice within community and hospital-based primary care and specialty practices. The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Global Health Track has one position and provides opportunities to work with underserved and vulnerable populations in resource-constrained settings both locally and globally. The Family Medicine Track has one position and provides opportunity to develop skills to teach post-graduate physician learners in interprofessional primary care environments. PGY2 Specialty Residency Program in Geriatrics – Additional Specifics
This program prepares residents to become fully integrated members of the interdisciplinary geriatric team, to make complex pharmacotherapy decisions, assist with complicated transitions of care, and to serve as a clinical content expert, educator, and researcher. The PGY2 Geriatric Residency program provides a wide variety of opportunities to practice within geriatric ambulatory care, long-term care, palliative care, and management. Electives are also available in geriatric psychiatry and Mastery of Teaching Certificate is available. It is highly recommended the resident have availability to a vehicle for transportation to the multiple learning sites.
