The HMH PGY1 Pharmacy Residency for International Graduates (PGY1-IG) provides international pharmacist graduates the advanced knowledge, skills, and experiences of an ASHP-accredited residency program in preparation for a professional practice of distinction in their country of origin. Graduates of our PGY1-IG program are qualified to assume advanced clinical pharmacist positions as entry-level departmental leaders or compete for a PGY2 residency position for additional training prior to a return to their country of origin.
The program provides experiences in cardiology, critical care, drug information/formulary management, infectious diseases, internal medicine, research/management, continuity of care, community hospital clinical service and medication safety. Many elective rotations are available including hematology/oncology, neurology, pharmacy informatics and solid organ transplantation.
Training alongside over 50 clinical pharmacists and 21 other residents, the PGY1 resident will have ample teaching opportunities including mentoring and providing instruction to doctor of pharmacy students. The resident will provide an ACPE-accredited CE program and can participate in an optional teaching certificate program through the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Additionally, the resident will conduct a continuous quality improvement project as well research project to be submitted for publication
The program is designed with a start date of mid-September and content to meet the unique needs of the international pharmacist graduate.

The resident must be fully licensed by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy within 90 days of the start of the program.
