The Ambulatory Care PGY2 Program at Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health (RWJBH) is designed to provide the resident with an experience that aligns with the mission and vision of the Ambulatory Care Division.
Our Ambulatory Care Division works closely with healthcare providers, residents, students, and medical staff to:
Perform comprehensive medication reviews to assess the appropriateness of medications, check for drug–drug interactions, and identify and resolve any adverse drug reactions.
Formulate patient specific medication related treatment and monitoring plans.
Evaluate and titrate patients’ medications after close monitoring of patients’ response to therapy pertaining to safety and efficacy.
Assist in the medication acquisition process, helping patients obtain needed medications at an affordable cost.
Deliver accurate, comprehensive, disease specific and/or patient specific drug information to patients, caregivers, and health care providers involved in the care of the patient.
Perform research and utilize findings to optimize patient care and outcomes.
Provide an environment to train future ambulatory care providers.
Connect with the larger community by participating in wellness activities across the region
Create Centers of Excellence for ambulatory pharmacy training
RWJBH Primary Care is a multi-specialty group practice that provides care across NJ’s largest integrated health system. We are composed of highly experienced primary and specialty care health care professionals, including but not limited to Doctor of Medicine, Advance Practice Nurses, Physician Assistants, Registered Dieticians, Care Coordinators, and Social Workers.
Residents will rotate between various office practice locations throughout the RWJBH enterprise, including Livingston, Florham Park, Shrewsbury, Eatontown, and Jersey City.

At the discretion of the director and availability of preceptors, other experiences may be available across the enterprise depending on the resident’s goals
This program has a strong academic focus. The PGY2 Resident will have the opportunity to work with School of Pharmacy Clinical Faculty from both Fairleigh Dickinson and Rutgers School of Pharmacy. The resident will participate in the education of pharmacy students enrolled at both schools and PGY1 residents throughout the enterprise. Additionally, the PGY2 resident will have the opportunity to participate in a teaching certificate program offered by Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy if they have not already completed a similar certificate program.
Designed for residents to gain experience and expertise in Leadership & Management. Interactive sessions will allow formation of deeper connection and relationship with resident colleagues throughout the RWJBH enterprise.
The PGY2 Ambulatory Care program conducted by RWJBH has an accreditation precandidate status with ASHP
Graduates of the program will develop the following skills:
Ability to establish a collaborative practice
Initiation of clinical and operational services that would be transferrable to future endeavors
Utilization of evidence-based patient centered treatment for chronic disease state management
Promotion of population health and wellness
Demonstration of excellence in teaching providers, patients, and pharmacists
Leadership and management of a practice
Completion of practice-based research project that is fit for publication and platform presentation of results at a conference.

Following submission of PhORCAS materials, the selected candidates will be invited onsite for in-person interview
Completion of PGY1 Residency is expected upon beginning of PGY2 residency
The candidate will be expected to obtain NJ Pharmacist license for by October 1st
