The PGY1 pharmacy residency program at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital offers a unique combination of individually tailored clinical experiences, drug information opportunities, medication safety initiatives, and research endeavors. Residents will have the opportunity to advance the growth of the pharmacy profession, contribute to the advancement of the medical and pharmacy literature, and develop clinical, teaching, and leadership skills. As closely integrated community hospital offering complex services, we expect to provide the residents a well-rounded experience of all clinical and operational aspects of our pharmacy department through their one year learning journey.
The program provides core experiences in Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Management, and Medication safety. Elective experiences in Emergency Medicine, Oncology, Neonatal ICU, Neurology, and Transitions of Care are available, as well as potential off-site opportunities.
The PGY1 Resident will be mentored by 13 board certified preceptors in a variety of specialized practice areas, as well as work alongside 72 professional pharmacy staff. They will engage in patient care committees and clinical pharmacist consult services, all while working with hundreds of physicians. The resident will complete the ASHP Medication Safety Certification, and will have an opportunity to participate in an optional teaching certificate program through the University of Houston College of Pharmacy.
