This position is responsible for provision of pharmaceutical care to the oncology patient population in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Activities include participating in interdisciplinary rounds; providing patient education; evaluating, monitoring and modifying drug therapies; providing recommendations to optimize patient outcomes; optimizing safety; ensuring cost effectiveness; and providing drug information.
The Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist participates in the development of programs, policies, and guidelines that support the implementation of evidence-based standards of practice and fulfill requirements of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, Pennsylvania Hospital and its pharmacy department, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory agencies. The Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist contributes to the overall clinical management initiatives of the pharmacy department through quality initiative implementation, data collection, and analysis; detection and reporting of adverse drug events; and participation as a regular or ad hoc member of hospital committees.
The Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist should be an effective communicator and be able to integrate themselves within the health care team. Additionally, the Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will coordinate oncology-related pharmacotherapy activities and educational opportunities for department pharmacists, clerkship students, and pharmacy residents.
Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy
Completion of a Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY-1)
Completion of an advanced practice residency (PGY-2) or fellowship in Oncology (preferred)
Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) or certification eligible (preferred)
