Position Summary: The ID/ASP Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is a member of the Infectious Diseases team and is assigned primary responsibility for providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients treated with antimicrobials. The ID/ASP Clinical Pharmacy Specialist collaborates with other pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and cost-effective antimicrobial drug therapy.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Rounds with inpatient ID consult services
Oversees institutional ASP and ensures compliance with The Joint Commission standards
Assesses antimicrobial therapy for appropriateness and optimizes use to improve patient outcomes
Reviews and monitors compliance with restricted antimicrobial formulary
Creates and implements guidelines and policies to improve antimicrobial use and quality of care in collaboration with other health care providers
Manages antimicrobial drug formulary and shortages
Assists in the management of institutional influenza program and palivizumab administration
Provides education to all members of the healthcare team
Precepts pharmacy students, residents, and fellows
Develops, implements, evaluates, and participates in quality improvement projects or research studies to enhance ID pharmaceutical care
Presents research results at professional meetings and/or publishes results in professional literature
Participates in continuing education programs, in-services, and workshops to maintain current knowledge and enhance professional growth
Pharm.D from an accredited school of pharmacy required.
Completion of a pediatric clinical pharmacy residency, required.
Completion of a PGY1 residency
Completion of a PGY2 residency in infectious diseases or pediatrics with emphasis in infectious diseases
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Current Texas Pharmacist licensure within 90 days of hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire
Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification or board eligibility within 2 years of hire
Texas State Board of Pharmacy preceptor certification within 90 days of hire
