As the largest provider of cancer care in the region, the University of Tennessee Medical Center's Cancer Institute offers the broadest spectrum of cancer specialists and services to care for the adult population. The 83,000-square-foot cancer area is equipped with features that support and enhance the comprehensive services provided to oncology patients and is devised to meet the needs of patients, families, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other staff. Our multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists provides patients with the highest quality of care.
The Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Pharmacist Specialist will practice in our brand new 25-bed inpatient cellular therapy/hematology/oncology unit and our 36-bed outpatient oncology infusion center. He or she will care for our BMT and CAR-T patients within our Cellular Therapy program. The Cellular Therapy program is new to UTMC and will treat its first patients in 4th Quarter of 2021. The BMT Pharmacist Specialist will join our Cellular Therapy team 4-6 months prior to patient treatment to assist in establishment of UTMC’s Cellular Therapy Program.
The Pharmacy Supervisor in Bone Marrow Transplant:
Provides in-depth clinical pharmacy services to adult inpatient and outpatient cellular therapy patients
Develops supportive care treatment algorithms to establish standards of care for cellular therapy patients
Develops standardized CPOE chemotherapy regimens for cellular therapy patients
Participates in all aspects of the medication-use system while providing comprehensive and individualized pharmaceutical care as a member of interdisciplinary teams
Completes pharmacy consults/clinical interventions, interdisciplinary collaboration, stewardship of appropriate utilization of medications, integrated operational support, and departmental leadership as required by the position
Identifies service-related issues which require evaluation and facilitates research projects and quality improvement initiatives as needed to advance practice
Has additional responsibilities including education to patients, peers, medical, and nursing staff about the management, prescribing and monitoring of therapies used in cellular therapy
Completes external presentations, publications, and professional speaking is strongly encouraged and supported
May serve as a preceptor for the PGY1 Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, or Ambulatory Care Residency Program
Provides precepting mentorship for Doctor of Pharmacy students
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
ASHP Accredited Hematology/Oncology Residency or Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy
Minimum 3 years of Bone Marrow Transplant and/or CAR-T therapy pharmacist experience
Tennessee pharmacy licensure (or eligible)
