Please email each RPD directly. Psychiatric Pharmacy (PGY-2) This residency is an ASHP-accredited program focused on developing skills necessary to practice as a specialist in psychiatry. The program allows sufficient flexibility to adapt to the individual needs of the resident, while ensuring that all ASHP standards for specialized residency training in psychiatric pharmacy are met. Upon completion of this program, the resident should possess the skills needed to excel as either a clinical specialist in Psychiatric Pharmacy or clinical faculty member and attain board certification (i.e. BCPP). The PGY2-year includes monthly inpatient psychiatry rotations and longitudinal outpatient experiences. Notable learning opportunities include a pharmacist-led injection clinic, ID-psychiatry clinic (i.e. HIV), and seven distinct inpatient rotations encompassing adult and adolescent populations. We have an on-site Drug Information Center that answers questions from healthcare professionals throughout South Carolina, as well as fulfilling requests from our pharmacy department. Residents will have the opportunity for longitudinal experiences with the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and various subcommittees (eg, Hematology/Oncology, Anti-Infective). We offer two drug information courses in the MUSC College of Pharmacy; residents will have the option to participate in the development of lectures/materials for those classes. Other rotations in medication safety, medication-use policy, drug shortages, staff development/education, and informatics are available. The program allows sufficient flexibility to adapt to the individual needs of the resident while ensuring that all ASHP standards for drug information specialized residency training are met. It equips the resident to participate as an integral interdisciplinary team member caring for children and to assume responsibility for optimal pharmaceutical care. The resident will function independently as a practitioner while maintaining close contact with a preceptor to help conceptualize and integrate accumulated experience and knowledge to improve medication therapy in a variety of settings. The resident will be prepared for teaching, scholarship, and practice leadership. After completion of this residency, the resident will be prepared to practice as a pharmacy specialist with skills in drug distribution and information; to serve as a clinical faculty member by precepting pharmacy students and residents; to contribute to the pharmacy literature; and to attain board certification in pediatric pharmacy. Residents will be prepared to pursue a career in a health system or academia and engage in educational or scholarly pursuits. The program allows sufficient flexibility to adapt to the individual needs of the resident, while ensuring that all ASHP standards for specialized residency training in internal medicine are met. In addition to required internal medicine and infectious disease rotations, the program offers a variety of elective rotations allowing sufficient flexibility to adapt to the individual needs of the resident. Additional experiences will include delivering an ACPE-accredited seminar, completing longitudinal research project and MUE with the mentorship of one or more research advisors, participating in the 24 hour adult in-house pharmacy on-call service and longitudinal clinical operations experience in an inpatient pharmacy. Residents will also be actively involved in precepting pharmacy students and will be responsible for coordinating the Medicine Journal Club and Medicine Team Teaching experiences.
