Pharmacy technicians are responsible for preparing doses under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, as well as delivering medications to patient care units and partnering with pharmacists, nurses and other important members of the healthcare team.There are opportunities to learn basic production and also IV compounding. You must bemotivated and willing to learn multiple areas of the Inpatient Pharmacy, in a fast paced environment.
Responsibilities/Job Description
Prepare, label and deliver medications and supplies accurately and safely, as assigned and in accordance with all legal requirements and policies under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
Deliver medications and supplies to patient care areas.
Process medication orders or prescriptions and maintain patient profiles accurately in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacy information systems.
Enter patient information and/or medication orders into the EHR (electronic health record) and/or pharmacy systems
Operate equipment and use appropriate techniques when using automated medication stations, refilling, inventory tasks, basic reports and maintenance.
Audit medication storage areas for proper storage of medications, dating and appropriate medication stock
Assist in processing returns and outdated drugs for return credit.
As assigned, ensure correct inventory, deliver and maintenance of files related to controlled substances throughout the hospital.
Complete work activities through effective management of time, tasks and available information.
Teach and mentor co-workers.
Answer and appropriately triage incoming phone calls to various areas of the pharmacy department and/or staff.
Communicate appropriately, using all options available including e-mail
Meet and comply with all initial and ongoing competencies within the entity and department.
Qualifications
Required:
Six months of pharmacy technician experience required.
Current registration by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy, and if first registered on/after 1/1/2013, completion of a MNBOP approved employer based or vocational/technical training program.
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certification, or expectation to attain within 6 months of hire.
Desired Skills:
Excellent customer service skills, proficient in the English language, good attention to detail, ability to problem solve effectively, ability to follow policies and procedures, basic math skills, basic typing skills and excellent communication skills.
