University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) is an exciting and fast-paced hospital environment to work as a pharmacy technician. UMMC is an academic medical center, where we take care of some of Minnesotas sickest patients.
Technicians on our West Bank campus of UMMC support pharmaceutical care for pediatric, behavioral health and adult patients. Technicians at UMMC are trained to work in a variety of settings, including Central Distribution, IV Sterile Compounding, ICU/OR satellites and Automation.
Technicians also participate in lifesaving resuscitation efforts for cardiac arrest patients as part of a Code Team. They staff alongside and support clinically trained pharmacists and pharmacy residents, working with cutting edge medication therapies and technologies.

This position is approved for 64 hours every two weeks and is benefit eligible position. This position qualifies for a $5000 sign on bonus.
Responsibilities/Job Description
Prepare, label and deliver medications and supplies accurately and safely, as assigned and in accordance with all legal requirements and policies under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
Calculate and measure correct dose, select correct drug and diluents, compound and label products accurately and safely.
Admixtures include Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), Immunoglobulin mixtures (IGG, ATG), irrigations, infusions, antibiotic piggybacks and syringes, chemotherapy and other sterile products.
Demonstrate knowledge of calibrating TPN and/or other compounding pumps packaging machines and other technology
Deliver medications and supplies to patient care areas.
Process medication orders or prescriptions and maintain patient profiles accurately in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacy information systems.
Enter patient information and/or medication orders into the EHR (electronic health record) and/or pharmacy systems
Assist pharmacist in processing outpatient prescriptions
Assist in medication preparation.
Operate equipment and use appropriate techniques when using automated medication stations, refilling, inventory tasks, basic reports and maintenance.
Prepare medication orders for re-supplying Automated Distribution Cabinets.
After a pharmacist or Tech-Check-Tech Technician checks order for accuracymedications are re-stocked in the appropriate Automated Dispensing Cabinet. Manage medication inventories including re-supplying, checking for outdates, etc.
Prepare, order, process and recharge stock.
Distribute completed orders appropriately
Audit medication storage areas for proper storage of medications, dating and appropriate medication stock
Fill and distribute routine stock orders for patient care areas.
Prepare invoices for payment.
Assist in processing returns and outdated drugs for return credit.
As assigned, ensure correct inventory, deliver and maintenance of files related to controlled substances throughout the hospital.
Complete work activities through effective management of time, tasks and available information.
Teach and mentor co-workers.
Answer and appropriately triage incoming phone calls to various areas of the pharmacy department and/or staff.
Communicate appropriately, using all options available including e-mail
Demonstrate knowledge of billing and accurately process charges and credits
As assigned, ensure charge capture and correct billing of all manually billed items from patient care areas.
Meet all role-related and age specific competencies. Comply with all initial and ongoing competencies within the entity and department.

Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
At least 6 months pharmacy technician experience in a complex pharmacy or healthcare environment.
License/Certification/Registration
Registered or ability to become registered as Pharmacy Technician with the MN State Board of Pharmacy.
Nationally certified or certified within 12 months of employment. Certifying exams must have National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation, with examples including Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam and The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).
