SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) seeks full time, clinical Pharmacy Manager for its Juneau, Alaska medical facility, the Ethel Lund Medical Center.
This position is responsible for the supervisory and managerial responsibilities related to the day-to-day operation of pharmacy services provided at the Ethel Lund Medical Clinic (ELMC). The primary purpose of pharmacy services is to assure efficacious, safe and cost-effective drug therapy and appropriate outcomes in the use of drugs and medicines; to procure, store, prepare and distribute medications according to Federal and Alaska State laws; to provide patient and staff drug information, counseling and education; to evaluate and maintain an appropriate drug inventory and to participate in quality improvement activities. The Pharmacy Manager ensures that the pharmacy department provides optimal services; meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements; and complies with all applicable organization policies, procedures, codes and standards.
SEARHC in Juneau Alaska is an easy 2 1/2 hours flight from Seattle, WA and is the primary healthcare system throughout the rural communities in the scenic Inner Passage of Alaska. SEARHC staff enjoy the region's temperature sweet spot between 20 degrees in winter and 70 degrees in summer. Financials: labor and non-labor equals approximately $1.6 million; Record retention responsibilities required by State Board of Pharmacy, the Federal Controlled Substance Act, and the Drug Enforcement Agency; Direct Patient Care (50% of Position duties), verify all prescriptions (for therapy, legality, completeness, contraindications, interactions, allergies, adverse drug reactions, lab value abnormalities and follow-up) and resolve concerns or questions; Recruit and supervise professional and support staff within the pharmacy (30% of Position duties); Evaluate overall performance of the department and lan improvements in pharmacy services (10% of Position duties); Controls utilization of department resources (5% of Position duties); other duties (5% of Position duties).
-Parm.D. and licensure as a registered pharmacist. Candidates licensed prior to 2003 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree will be considered (reviewed in addition to work experience). No substitution for the degree.
-Candidate with Pharm.D. degree must also have 4 years experience of which one year must have been in a supervisory role within a pharmacy.
-Candidate with Bachelor of Pharmacy degree must also have 6 years of experience, one of which must have been in a supervisory role within a pharmacy.
-Unrestricted active Alaska license as a registered pharmacist obtained within 12 months of hire or sooner.
-Basic Life Support of Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED)
-ACLS certification preferred.
-PALS certification preferred.

Wrangell Medical Center (WMC) is SEARHC's Critical Access Hospital and Long-Term Care Facility in the community of Wrangell. From minor illnesses to injuries, providers/rns are available for care. Acute care for short-term treatment, illness or injury, outpatient care. Swing bed care for longer term treatment (illness or rehabilitation of an injury), access to visiting specialties services, Rehabilitation services (outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech), lab or imaging services for diagnosis needs. and stabilizing patients if critical care requires another facility for more critical attention. ER care, transitional care and long term care. WMC has an RN on duty 24/7, 7 days a week.
