Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center is seeking a Pharmacoeconomics- Clinical Informatics Program Manager that will be located in Houston, TX. The incumbent is responsible for pharmacoeconomic program development, implementation, monitoring and reporting. Pharmacoeconomic analysis shall focus on: pharmaceutical formulary selection; formulary implementation and usage monitoring; medication conversions; drug utilization evaluations, therapy treatment and pathway development and assessment (economic and clinical); patient health outcomes; health-related quality of life assessments, medication education, VISN and national formulary meeting participation, and information communication. The incumbent shall be responsible for the development and maintenance of economic analysis programs and pharmaceutical outcome research. Develop, implement, and manage programs to optimize drug therapy costs, including participation in the development of disease management programs. Design and coordinate the implementation of pharmacoeconomic and outcomes research evaluations. Evaluations should include: Treatment-impact assessment, including clinical endpoints, safety endpoints, resource savings or resource impact assessments, health status outcomes and utility estimates and appropriate outcomes of therapy. Outcomes should be expressed in clinical terms as well as in terms of quality of life and dollar savings or expenditures. Collaborate within Pharmacists and other healthcare disciplines to conduct prospective/retrospective medication use evaluations of high-use, high-costs, and/or high risk medications. Prepare and report analysis of data, make recommendations for corrective action, and develop education programs/interventions that would aberrant prescribing or work patterns. Oversee the daily activities and assignments of pharmacy procurement technicians as delegated by the Pharmacy Service Chief (or designee). Reviews patient medication regimens for clinical effectiveness, drug selection, dosing, contraindications, side effects, potential drug interactions, and therapeutic outcomes as required. Communicates findings with prescribers and provides appropriate alternatives to current treatment plans as needed. Maintain a scope of practice for provision of direct patient care.
