Job Summary
Under general direction of the Chief Pharmacy Executive and in collaboration with Pharmacy Operations and Clinical Services, manages and provides oversight and management of Pharmacy Informatics Program and pharmacy projects. Leads the planning, design, testing, implementation, training and maintenance of all pharmacy systems, applications, technologies, automation, and analytical tools to support pharmacy operations, clinical services and all aspects involving the drug use management processes. Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced technical project management professional with a full understanding of project management frameworks and methods, relevant policies and procedures to resolve highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors specific to the Department of Pharmacy and/or other departments associated with Pharmacy related projects. Works in collaboration with the Pharmacy Leadership Team, P&T Committee, Physician Leaders, and others throughout the organization in support of UCSF Pharmacy Enterprise to expand pharmacy services and improve quality, safety, compliance, service, efficiency and cost.
Additional duties and essential job functions are broad in scope and duties require extensive experience and knowledge of the healthcare system, pharmacy services, and therapeutics. Senior Pharmacist Supervisors may, for example, have responsibility for on-going design and management of the department's education and training program, an operational unit, a comprehensive data processing system, and/or studies which require an overall knowledge of the trends and problems affecting pharmacy operations. The majority of annualized work time is spent fulfilling the Senior Pharmacist Supervisor responsibilities. The remainder may, as required, be spent developing skills needed to provide specialist or assistant director level services.Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm D) or equivalent training.
- Post graduate year 1 [PGY1] In Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience required
- Must have at least three (3) years of experience as a licensed clinical pharmacist in a hospital pharmacy or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrates subject matter knowledge of pharmaceutical theory and industry best practices in optimizing the use of medication to treat patients. Stays updated on pharmacy regulations and developments in research and design. Ability to apply principles to an acute care setting.
- Knowledge of relevant Pharmacy Department, medical center, and UC policies and protocols including medication storage, safety, and patient privacy and treatment. Knowledge of all pharmacy federal and state laws and regulations.
- Requires ability to assess the needs of the Pharmacy Department and other associated departments across campuses and/or medical centers for automation, information technology, analytical products and design services to meet operational and clinical requirements for the business enterprise.
- Working knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives.

- Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in clinical documentation applications and pharmacy database technology and train others to effectively use applications.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and trend data to identify potential improvement opportunities to change clinical and/or operational practices to improve drug utilization and/or cost-effective prescribing.
- Knowledge of and experience working with Healthcare specific EMR, Decision Support, and Financial accounting software. (e.g. Epic, Tag Bio or similar).
- Knowledge of MS Excel required; Experience with MS Application (e.g. Word, Visio, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications- Registered Pharmacist in the State of California
- Post graduate year 2 [PGY2] in area of specialty practice or equivalent experience in specialty area preferred
- Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy and / or Board Certification in Specialty Practice [if available] preferred
- Epic Systems certification in one or more analytical or reporting modules (e.g., Clarity)
- Epic Systems certification in one or more medication-use modules (e.g., Willow Inpatient, Willow Ambulatory, Willow Inventory, Beacon)
