Manchester University College of Pharmacy, Natural and Health Sciences in Fort Wayne, Indiana is collaborating with Parkview Regional Medical Center to accept applications for individuals for a 12-month, non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Pharmacist will be a Manchester employee with practice responsibilities at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Acute Care specialties which will be considered include pediatrics and infectious diseases.
Position Details:
Manchester University College of Pharmacy, Natural and Health Sciences in Fort Wayne, Indiana is seeking qualified individuals for a 12-month, non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Acute Care specialties which will be considered include internal medicine and critical care. The primary responsibilities will be in the areas of teaching (70-80%), service (10-20%) and scholarship (10-20%). Clinical practice will be incorporated into all three areas. This position will report to the Chair of Pharmacy Practice at Manchester. Clinical practice responsibilities will be 50% of work hours with direct reporting relationship with the Inpatient Clinical Manager at Parkview Regional Medical Center.
Essential Job Functions at Manchester:
Reporting to the Pharmacy Practice Department Chair, all faculty members will be responsible for:
- Creating, delivering, and assessing instruction and its effectiveness for student learning in the doctor of pharmacy curriculum, both in the classroom and at the designated practice site;
- Developing and maintaining an innovative and transformational clinical practice in acute care at a designated practice site in alignment with the strategic plan of the institution; precept students at that site and develop a program of research/scholarship as evidenced by professional presentations, publications and/or grants in collaboration with the institution.
- Participating in faculty governance, contributing to the service needs of the college, serving on various committees, participating in the accreditation process, and participating fully in the co-curricular activities within the College.
- Maintaining professional effectiveness including, but are not limited to: professional scholarship, intellectual integrity; professional currency; cooperation in all phases of the academic program; openness to learn about and adopt improved methods of teaching and above all, a vital interest in student learning.
- Developing visibility as an acute care practitioner within local, state, and national organizations;
- Working in a professional, collegial and team-oriented manner within the College and University communities.
- Maintaining compliance with policies and procedures in the Manchester University and Pharmacy Program handbooks. Maintaining compliance with all policies, procedures and requirements of clinical practice location to retain business associate clearance.
- Engaging in service to the profession and community.
- Providing academic advising/mentoring for Pharm. students and support their personal and professional development.
Pediatric Position Details at Parkview Regional Medical Center:
The clinical specialist will join an established pediatric pharmacy specialist to provide direct patient care in the Parkview Women’s and Children’s Hospital. In preparation for Pediatric service line growth, an additional pediatric specialist is needed. As part of an established pediatric pharmacy program, this additional specialist will benefit from close relationships with physicians and other care providers in both the inpatient and outpatient pediatric settings. Parkview Health has provided specialty pharmacy services in pediatrics for over 20 years and are continually being asked to expand into additional responsibilities. This pharmacist will participate in pharmacy-based projects and multidisciplinary committees and will precept student pharmacists and pharmacy residents.
Infectious Diseases Position Details at Parkview Regional Medical Center:
The clinical specialist will join an established infectious diseases clinical specialist to expand infectious diseases initiatives to the patients of Parkview Health. Services include, but are not limited to, oversight and monitoring of patient antimicrobial therapy, evaluation of rapid PCR blood culture results, advising physicians and other staff on matters pertaining to drug usage and control within hospital locations, and serve as antimicrobial stewardship expert for quality and accreditation visits. Collaboration with various committees throughout the system is expected and may include, but is not limited to, Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Infection Prevention and Control, and Antimicrobial Stewardship. Active development and maintenance of best medication management practices is expected, with emphasis on antimicrobials. The Infectious Diseases Clinical Specialist plays an integral role in the education of pharmacy residents and PharmD candidates.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree
- Successful completion of two years of residency, one of which is a PGY2 in pediatrics or infectious disease (as applicable) or equivalent clinical experience (3-5 years)
- Board certification in pediatrics or infectious diseases must be completed within two years of hire
- Must be eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Indiana
- Previous academic experience of at least 3 years is highly desirable
- Demonstrated commitment to the value of intellectual and cultural diversity
- Must be able to consistently present a positive attitude and contribute to a harmonious team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Outstanding clinical and leadership skills
- Strong commitment to interprofessional education in the health sciences
- Ability to foster collaborative and interdisciplinary initiatives with the medical communities of northeast Indiana
