CLINICAL PHARMACY COORDINATOR
The Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator reports to the Pharmacy Director and serves as both a supervisor and a clinical pharmacy specialist. The incumbent will also act in the absence of the Pharmacy Director and assist the Director in planning, coordinating and implementing pharmacy programs, projects and services. This class can be distinguished from subordinate pharmacist classes by its supervisory duties and the responsibility of performing more complex, consultative pharmacy work while serving as a training resource to other pharmacy staff.
Example of Duties:
- Performs varied technical, specialized or difficult clerical work requiring the frequent exercise of initiative, individual judgment and the application of thorough knowledge of departmental rules and policies
- Examines documents, records and forms for accuracy, completeness and conformance to applicable rules and regulations approves or rejects documents; searches for missing information to complete documents
- Responds to computer messages sent via electronic mail system and routes messages to the appropriate person
- Codes materials for entry into data processing system or enters data directly into computer system; proofreads computer input and output to ensure correctness of entries and reviews rejected entries to identify and correct errors
- Reviews and evaluates the work of unit to determine quantity and quality of work
- Plans, assigns, distributes and evaluates the work of subordinate staff; trains employees; answers questions of subordinates requiring interpretation of rules and regulations; may interview applicants and make recommendations for hire
- Gathers data and provided information for reports by searching for and abstracting specialized or technical data; interprets and explains laws, regulations, policies or procedures to subordinate staff and sends other materials and form letters; may compose letters and other correspondence independently
- Sorts, codes, files and indexes correspondence forms, records, reports, documents or other material alphabetically, numerically, or by other predetermined classification which require detailed knowledge of the subject matter; may set up and maintain specialized filing systems; may design, revise and implement forms
- May operate a variety of standard office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, calculators and fax machines
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Licensure: Possession of a current and valid Registered Pharmacist license issued by the State of California Board of Pharmacy.
Experience/Education: Three years as a licensed Pharmacist in an acute care hospital setting OR graduation from an accredited residency or comparable program in a hospital clinical or specialized pharmacy setting may substitute for one year of the above required experience.
Thorough Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of employee supervision, including selection, training, motivation, evaluation and discipline.
- Current principles, methods and practices related to clinical pharmacy, modern pharmacology and toxicology
- Methods and techniques used in pharmacokinetic monitoring of drug therapy
- Current and new principles and practices of pharmacy administration including procurement, quality control, quality improvement, formulary development/maintenance, benefits management and budgeting
- Current laws and standards regarding the use of narcotics, poisons and drugs, including those relevant to the operation of both an acute-care hospital pharmacy and an ambulatory care pharmacy
- Standards and methods for compounding/dispensing a wide range of pharmaceutical prescriptions/preparations, I.V. additive mixtures, and unit/dose medication distribution systems
- The drugs, chemicals and pharmaceutical supplies typically required for an acute-care hospital pharmacy as well as an ambulatory care pharmacy
- Pharmacy technology and components
- The pharmaceutical services standards of The Joint Commission (TJC) and CA Department of Health
