Job Summary
Performs a variety of clinical and technical duties involved in the preparation of infusion therapy medications and supplies under the direction of the infusion pharmacist Works in the capacity of a float between the pharmacy mixing and warehouse departments as workload dictates throughout the shift.
Job Duties
- Performs calculations for preparation of doses.
- Prepares and affixes proper labels to finished products; organizes products for dispensing to patients.
- Refers completed product to pharmacist for checking and countersigning.
- Communicates with clinical staff to provide necessary information regarding patient drug orders and refers problems to the pharmacist, as appropriate.
- Inspects medications to ensure they are properly stored and that only in-date medications are stored.
- Maintains skills and flexibility in order to provide coverage for absences in other areas of the pharmacy as needed.
- Floats from areas of low workload to areas of heavy work as needed to provide optional patient services.
- Receives, unpacks, and checks incoming merchandise including sensitive chemotherapy and class drugs; inspects all containers for visible damage; compares packing lists against purchase orders and notes discrepancies, number of cartons, and condition of carton contents; signs freight bills as acceptance.
- Fills customer packing slips, striving for accuracy in pulling supplies, and performs clerical activities to ensure shipments are ready for pharmacist review and delivery; refrigerates product as required.
- Ships outbound products to patients; provides protective packaging; weighs, stamps, and addresses all parcels for shipment, including those being returned for credit or repair.
- Handles Biohazardous products for disposal; adheres to safety and related compliance procedures in handling, storage, and disposal of product to ensure employee, product, and facility safety.
- Disposes of cardboard and shipping containers.
- Fills the position of courier on an as needed basis, performing all duties and responsibilities of a fully trained courier.
